Welcome to MindNode Next, now available on iPhone, iPad, and Mac! 
Earlier this year, we launched MindNode Next for Apple Vision Pro. We're thrilled to announce that it's now also available on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. With MindNode Next, you can effortlessly create and organize mind maps and outlines on all your devices. Invite your colleagues to collaborate and expand upon your next big idea. 

MindNode Next is a brand-new app on the App Store. You can use it alongside MindNode Classic (iOS and macOS), and it's now part of your existing MindNode Plus subscription. Learn more about MindNode Classic in my recent blog post. And download MindNode Next now from the App Store.


Since MindNode Next introduces a new way to manage documents and has a slightly different feature set than MindNode Classic, we are releasing it as a new app. This ensures you can switch to the new version at your own pace and convenience. We highly value your productivity, so we want to ensure we never get into your way. 



In MindNode Next, documents are managed directly by the app and no longer in the Finder or Files app. This change enables several new features, including seamless sync, live collaboration, powerful new App Intents for Shortcuts, and stable linking to MindNode documents. We also have several other exciting new features on our roadmap that will build on this new foundation. 


With MindNode Next all your documents also reside on iCloud (CloudKit). Our custom-built syncing engine ensures that changes are consistently updated across all your devices. Even when you add content on (multiple) offline devices, MindNode Next can automatically bring all your changes together. 

One of our most requested features for the past decade has been the ability to collaborate with others on mind maps. In MindNode Next, you can now invite others to work with you on your documents. We're also launching a beta version of our new "Live Collaboration" feature. This feature allows you to see who else is currently online, view the content they've selected, and observe their changes in real time. 


Our Live Collaboration is fully end-to-end encrypted, ensuring that all information transmitted through this service remains private. Our service doesn't even store any data, it just passes along the encrypted messages to your peers. 

MindNode Next offers a comprehensive set of mind mapping and outlining tools, empowering you to organize your thoughts and ideas more effectively. Whether you create mind maps, outline projects, or brainstorm ideas, MindNode Next has got you covered. MindNode Next, at its core, shares many similarities with MindNode Classic. The functionalities of creating, editing, reordering, and folding nodes are the same. We've even ensured that the enhancements we've made in MindNode Next are also brought over into MindNode Classic. 
However, there are a few notable differences in how certain features operate. For instance, styling is now built on a new model that simplifies attribute inheritance in collaborative environments. Additionally, the style inspector is now conveniently accessible directly on the canvas. Visual Tags have also undergone a significant update in their handling and management. 


MindNode Next is introducing pro-level features to MindNode. In the Shortcuts app, you now have access to completely redesigned App Intents. They enable you to query all MindNode documents and automate changes to your content. This capability allows you to construct complex workflows, such as finding all nodes with an open task and highlight them visually.
Another exciting feature is the introduction of a new export type to MindNode: SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics). You can now embed MindNode documents into websites or import them into graphic applications like Sketch or Figma.



MindNode Next supports exporting and importing documents from MindNode Classic. All features are imported, except for Manual Layout, which is currently unavailable. Consequently, imported documents are migrated to Smart Layout until we bring this feature to MindNode Next.
Once you imported a document into MindNode Next, it resides within MindNode Next as a separate document. Besides importing and exporting, you also got the option to copy-and-paste nodes from MindNode Next to MindNode Classic and back.



MindNode Next is available on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Vision Pro. It's part of your existing MindNode Plus subscription, allowing you to use MindNode Classic and MindNode Next with just one subscription. To ensure your subscription is accessible on all your devices, login with the same Apple Account on all your devices. If you use a different Apple Account for the App Store and iCloud, sign up for a MindNode Account (formerly known as "MindNode ID") directly in the app to unlock your subscription. 

If you're not already a subscriber of MindNode Plus, MindNode Next also includes a free editor. With this version, you can access basic mind mapping features, such as creating, rearranging, and folding nodes, and joining shared documents.

The development of MindNode Next was a significant undertaking for us. I want to express my gratitude to the entire team for their unwavering passion in driving the project forward. It's hard to believe that MindNode celebrated its 16th anniversary earlier this year. Over the past decade, the app has expanded from Mac to iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Apple Vision Pro. This expansion necessitates seamless document accessibility and up-to-date availability across all devices. Collaboration with peers on documents is also a key feature. These are things that will soon become an integral part of MindNode.


MindNode was one of the pioneers in adopting iCloud to ensure documents are available on all devices. However, the app was never great at gracefully handling simultaneous changes on multiple devices. This issue often resulted in showing a "Conflict Resolution" dialog. Sharing documents with others who also made changes was particularly challenging. Several years ago, we embarked on a mission to improve this situation. Despite our best efforts, we encountered difficulties bringing our planned changes to MindNode. Providing seamless sync, live collaboration, and other new features was impossible when storing documents as files on disk. We revised our plans and started to develop a new app, "MindNode Next," that now manages its documents directly in the app and synchronizes them using CloudKit. This Apple service powers many of Apple's apps, like Photos or Freeform.


MindNode Next was initially released for Apple Vision Pro early this year, and it's now expanding to iPhone, iPad, and Mac. We can share more information on the launch in a few days.


With the release of MindNode Next, we will soon rename the current version of MindNode to "MindNode Classic." This name change aims to better distinguish between the two versions of MindNode. We understand that MindNode Classic holds significant importance for many of our users, and we are committed to continue supporting it. Our team will continue to work on shipping enhancements and bug fixes for MindNode Classic. For instance, we will enhance connections in several areas in the upcoming update.

While MindNode Next is already a powerful mind mapping application, some MindNode Classic features are currently unavailable. For instance, manual layout and numerous exporters have not yet been implemented. Some long-time MindNode users may not want to adopt Next immediately, while we add those features in the coming months. Considering that we will continue supporting Classic, there is no need to switch to it immediately. My recommendation is to continue working with existing documents in MindNode Classic and give MindNode Next a try for new projects. This adoption approach has been successful for me over the past year during my slow adoption of Next. 

We are also ensuring a seamless transition for you. MindNode Classic and MindNode Next are part of the same MindNode Plus subscription. Consequently, you can utilize both apps without incurring any additional costs. 

Due to a request by Apple, we had to hide MindNode Classic on the App Store. You will no longer see it when you search for it, however you can redownload it any time from your list of purchased items or by using the direct link (iOS and macOS).

MindNode has a very exciting future ahead, and I'm excited to share more about the features we are now enabling with the release of MindNode Next for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Thank you for being part of this journey!
